Board of Ed., a Mixer and four invited Artist Talks

Art Book Club Presents: Board of Ed.: a mixer from 4-5, complete with a punch bowl (with punch) name-tags, get-to-know you ice-breakers and appropriate decorations, the mixer will be a place for art people to mingle and get to know each other a little better.

Followed by Artist Talks from 5-7. We are honored to present talks by Jane Benson, Holly Coulis, Jason Fox and Ian Pedigo.

Jane Benson is a sculptor and installation artist. She was born in England and now lives and works in Brooklyn. She received her BFA from Edinburgh College of Art (1994) and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1997). She has exhibited in national and international venues including MoMA PS1; Sculpture Center; Socrates Sculpture Park; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh. She has been the recipient of the Pollack-Krasner, the Fulbright Scholarship and two Lower Manhattan Cultural Council residencies. Her work has been reviewed in the New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, ARTnews and the New Yorker, among others.

Holly Coulis was born in Toronto and grew up in Elliot Lake Ontario, the uranium capital of the world. She received her MFA from the Museum school in Boston and has lived and painted in Brooklyn since 1999. Her work has been shown in New York, Zurich, Basel, Detroit, and Toronto. She currently shows with Cherry and Martin Gallery in Los Angeles and the Lamontagne Gallery in Boston.

Jason Fox was born in 1964 in Yonkers, New York and currently lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York. Fox received a M.F.A from Columbia University, New York. National and international exhibitions include shows at Franklin Parrasch Gallery, NY (2009), Zach Feuer Gallery, NY (2009) Andrea Rosen Gallery, NY (2009), Paula Cooper Gallery, NY (2009), Mario Diacono at Ars Libri, Boston, MA (2007), The Ballroom Marfa, Marfa, TX (2007), Greater New York at P.S.1, NY (2005), the Museo de Arte Carillo Gil, Mexico City (2004), and Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, NY (2004, 2005) and several exhibitions at Feature Inc, NY.

Ian Pedigo was born and grew up in Anchorage, Alaska.  He has exhibited in New York with Klaus Von Nichtssagend, in London with Rokeby, in Paris with Carlos Cardenas, in Canada at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge, and in Milan at Pianissimo.  He received his MFA the University of Texas at Austin in 2002. His work has been written about in Art in America, Artforum, Frieze, Art News, Art Review, The New York Times, Time Out New York, and The New Yorker, amongst other publications. This summer a monographic book on his work will be published by the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, and he will be having solo shows with Klaus Von Nichtssagend in September and with Rokeby, London in November.
